From Birkenfeld this route leads to the Nahe recreation area Fischwaid. A first short rest is well recommended at the beautifully located fish ponds. Continue on past meadows and fields to Brücken and Abentheuer. The historic ironworks is located to the right of the path, on the old ore path the route now follows the periphery of the national park in the direction of the Saarland border. If you like, you can extend the tour from here via Sötern to the Bostalsee, and from there return via the Nahe cycling route.

We continue following our trail markings and cycle through the Trauntal downhill to Hoppstädten-Weiersbach. Passing the train station, the route takes us along an old railway line by the Steinaubach and back to Birkenfeld partly via the Nahe cycling route.
